WCRP Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean:
Developing,linking and applying climate knowledge

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Opportunities and support for students and early career scientists.

As part of WCRP's ongoing commitment to education and capacity development and to train the next generation of regional climate experts, a limited number of travel grants will be available to enable and support participation of students and early career scientists to attend the conference.

Grants will be assigned based on the financial need and scientific merit of the proposed presentations described in the abstracts, the contribution to the conference and all supporting documents (see below). Priority will be given to:

  • Students: those pursuing their graduate studies (MSc, PhD).
  • Early Career Scientists: post-graduates and researchers who received their highest degree in 2008 or later.
How to qualify for financial support?

In order to qualify for financial support the applicant must:
  1. Submit an abstract of a paper to the conference, of which he/she is the principal author.
  2. Choose the box of application for financial support in the registration form and fill in the required information.
Financial support applicants will have to provide and submit the following information:
- Summary of CV (education, professional experience, selected publications).
- Short motivation statement (e.g. expected benefits from attending the conference).

A Scientific Committee has been established to review all the applications and select the successful candidates based on the importance of their contributions to the conference. Successful applicants will be notified on the result of the selection process in due time.

The number of financial support awards is limited and we recommend applicants to provide all useful information and supporting documentation to make their case. Grantees must attend the entire conference in order to benefit from the financial support which covers the registration fees and reasonable travel and accommodation expenses. People selected for financial support will have their fees waived automatically. Those who won't be selected will still get the chance to enjoy the early bird rate or the student rate (where applicable).
