I Convection-Permitting Climate Modeling School

10 September 2022, C. A. Buenos Aires, Argentina

PROGRAM

The program of the school will divided in two blocks.
  1. Theoretical sessions (3H), morning
    1. Climate simulating at convection-permitting resolution
    2. What to expect: Key aspects to take into account when performing CP climate simulations.
Teacher A. Prein, NCAR, US slides
What to expect: Key aspects of the micro-physics in models.
Teacher Wojciech Grabowski, NCAR, USA slides
    3. New paradigms for the CP climate simulation: GPU, C++
    4. What to expect: Expose to the new trend on models which are abandoning CPU-Fortran based codes to C++/GPU
Teacher Graziano Giuliani, ICTP, Italy slides video
    5. Management of new high resolution data-sets
    6. What to expect: What has to take into account when managing/processing large data-sets as the ones produced by the CP climate runs
Teacher J. Fernández, IFCA CSIC, Spain slides
  2. Practical (3H), afternoon
  3. Hands-on exercise on the use of multiple files, which can not be fully upload into memory
Assisted languages:i python, R and Fortran
Teachers: P. Corrales U. Buneos Aires (Argentina); J. Fernández, IFCA CSIC, (Spain); A. Prein, NCAR (US); L. Fita, CIMA (Argentina)
NOTE: We are waiting for confirmations from potential teachers for the school
